We people the lovely ladies at Sketch N Scrap have another layout challenge...this one has been designed by Mandy and this is my take on it. Pop on over to them to partake in the challenge and maybe win something!

My Work
Here goes...following are the layouts I have done for my albums. I hope you find some inspiration or ideas from viewing them. An acknowledgement needs and should be said for those pages featured that have been created using someone else's page map or sketch. A big thank you to those individuals/groups!

| The strips of the heart behind the yellow doily is washi tape. |

| It was tricky cutting out some of the photos with my blade knife, but so worth it. |

| These pictures provided me with the opportunity to try my hand at a collage style layout. |
 |
| To create the vine look I used white ink and dabbed it through the stencil, then added glitter and jewels. |
 |
| I coloured the doily by spraying it with watered ink. |
 |
| I used white ink to stamp the stems and leaves for the flowers. I loved the effect. |
 |
| The number 5and cake I cut out of a birthday card and lucky for me it actually matched her birthday cake! |

| I used white ink through a stencil and then dusted/dabbed it with blue ink to create this pacific design. |

| On this layout I played with acrylic paint and my stencils. |

| This layout I made with the design produced by Sketch n Scrap as part of a competition. I loved using glitter glue, spraying the doily's with spray mist, layered with vellum and smothered with flowers and butterflies. |

I wanted to create a natural feel with a Maori touch for this layout with my mother as the star. I used plastic grass and fern leaves and tried homemade coloured gesso through a stencil. I border punched the photo mat and added pearl like beads around it like a necklace.

Hi, my name is Donna and I am a scrapbooker in New Zealand (NZ). I
started scrapbooking again after a 12 year break and I am now officially
hooked! I've been doing this for just over a year now and have created
six lovely albums of photo memories. Needless to say that now all our
photos are in a more pleasing format and not just all shoved into an
album that doesn't really tell the story or highlight the photo, my
children and other family members love regularly flipping through and
reliving the memories, and that's the whole point of taking the photo in
the first place...right?!
When I first started it seemed everyone was doing it but after my break I've searched for scrapbooking clubs in Auckland, New Zealand with no luck...so I decided to create this blog in an attempt to draw out other scrapbookers in New Zealand for chat; sharing ideas and to help those who are just starting out or thinking of starting.
In this blog I will share what I know, my work (though I will block out the faces to protect others privacy), where to find tools and those things associated with scrapbooking, the best products for the job (that I have discovered through trial and error), where to get them; ideas for the frugal crafter and other sources of ideas.

The Tools
If your just starting out or have been scrapbooking for a while we
can all agree life is simpler and more creative when you have the
arsenal of tools every scrapbooker tends to collect. Here is a list of
some of the tools I found invaluable. There are the very basic ones and of course the extras that allow your creative flair to take flight!
Glue Pen
Basic- I found this to be essential when working with pieces that needed a very fine line or tiny dab of glue...such as if you are working with paper piecings. The best one I found is Zig ball point tip. It flows evenly without waste (you have to press down to release the glue from the tip) and comes out blue but dries clear. August 2016 it sells for around $8.00 from Just Scrapping.
Mat
Basic - This will protect your work surface from staining or adhesives. August 2016 it sells for $15.00 at The Warehouse. I'm a rather messing scrapper so this saved my work space and other goodies from getting wrecked!
Tweezers
Basic - Trust me, you do not want to use your normal tweezers! These tweezers have a ultra fine tip which is also helpful when attempting to push something into place. I found that they took a little while to get use to working them but now wouldn't be without them. They have a grip pad (shown in white) to help keep you steady and you push inwards to release the grip of the tweezers. August 2016 sells for $20.00 at The Warehouse Stationery.
Cutting Mat
Basic - This will also protect your work surface and this one is almost big enough to fit your entire page on. It is self healing so you shouldn't get lots of nicks in it. Tip - keep this flat! Smaller ones are available but I recommend the larger one. You can get this at The Warehouse Stationery for $16.00 as at August 2016.
Blade Knife
Basic - You will be surprised at how much you will use this tool, from trimming to gutting out pages which is why I have included it in the must have basics! Available at The Warehouse Stationery for $14.00 as at August 2016.
Trimmer
Basic - Now you may be wondering why I have chosen a more expensive trimmer than what is currently on the market...here is the reason. I've had quite a few trimmers and I found I had problems with stability and constantly having to buy replacement blades but with this trimmer by Fiskars you no longer have those problems. The blade is self sharpening so never needs replacing, and it is sturdy and strong. It can be compact or you can unfold the base to accommodate a 12 inch (30.5 cm) page. I have had mine now for a year and couldn't be happier so though this is expensive it's worth it! As at August 2016 it is $179.00 at Spotlight. Check around for specials!
Double Sided Tape
Basic - There are two sizes that work best with scrapbooking, the 12mm and the 6mm. You can pick these up at The Warehouse for around $3 - 4.00 each (as at August 2016).
Steel Ruler
Basic - When I first started out I used the good old average plastic ruler...needless to say it didn't last long and needed to be thrown away! You will use this ruler to help you trim straight when using the blade knife. You can pick one up from The Warehouse for $2.00 (as at August 2016).
Scissors
Basic - It is a good idea to have a large pair ($29.99) and a smaller one ($24.99 for those tricky delicate jobs). Non stick is perfect especially as a scrapbooker as you will be working with tape and glue! These scissors can be found at Spotlight as at August 2016.
Daubers/Blending Tool
Basic - Seriously I had no idea how much I would use these when I first bought them! You use them for inking around the edges of papers and stenciling and can be used with ink or chalk. Extra sponge applicators are readily available and quite cheap. Tip - Use one applicator per colour so as not to taint your work with a colour you don't want. As of August 2016 available from The Warehouse Stationery for $18.00.
Glue
Basic - You may be wondering why glue...some prefer glue to tape and I too at times revert to this when I need the adhesive to take some time to take so that I can move things into place, and glue is perfect for that. Tip - not all glue is equal! Use a glue that will not harm your work and keep it looking good as well as sticking. This glue is available from Spotlight for $8.00 as at August 2016.
Gel Pens
Basic - These have to be my all time favourite gel pens. Without fail they always work, glide on smoothly and are in lovely colours. The white gel pen by Pentel is sold separately and this is my preferred one! I bought four of the This & That brand and not one of them worked so needless to say I've not bought one since! You will use these for journaling and stenciling! As of August 2016 they were $9.95 and $6.00 respectively at The Warehouse Stationery.
Quilling Glue Applicator
Basic - These are a bargain at $5.99 from the Warehouse Stationery (as at 7 October 2016)! It's perfect for buying your glue in a bigger bottle and then transferring as you need it to smaller ones. They are easy to handle and deliver the glue through a fine tipped metal nozzle that allows you to add a blob or a very fine line of glue to those extra delicate jobs. I used this on a doily and it was perfect!
Glue For Vellum Paper
This glue although not a basic requirement is a must when dealing with pretty vellum paper work in your projects. It doesn't show through and mark the vellum making it the one and only go to for vellum work.

Sketch n Scrap Competition 110
Ok, wandering around on the internet I found this site Sketch n Scrap who currently have a layout competition running for the month of August. Here is my take on it...give it a go and remember you can't win if you're not in! Good luck.
